My Strengths Worksheet

When a child is suffering from the effects of anxiety, trauma, abuse, or behavioral problems, they feel helpless and vulnerable. These feelings can be overwhelming and impact their confidence when facing life challenges.

To ensure a child develops the skills needed to build mental and emotional resilience, they must know their strengths. Knowing what makes them strong helps them boost their confidence and can instill a sense of self-esteem.

About This Worksheet

Helping a child explore their strengths can be instrumental in helping them cope with stress. This can help with reducing anxiety, improving behavior, and resolving trauma.

The My Strengths worksheet helps children in therapy explore the qualities they possess that make them strong and able to care for themselves. It is an introduction to learning skills for building confidence and learning how to handle behavioral and emotional issues healthily.

Instructions

Exploring strengths helps children be in tune with their capabilities and skills they can use to cope with stress. The My Strengths worksheet can help with planning for situations that make them feel threatened or uncomfortable.

On this worksheet, the child is instructed to either draw or write about 3 of their strengths. This is intended to begin a conversation about having the confidence to use the strengths to communicate needs and expectations.

After the child has completed the worksheet, review their strengths with them and start a dialog about how they can be used. You may ask questions like:

  • When do you think your strengths can be useful?
  • How can you remind yourself of your strengths?
  • How do your strengths make you feel?

This worksheet is ideal for individual counseling sessions. It can be used with children in therapy.
